Gatsheni Experiences

Eastern Highlands, Zimbabwe

Chimanimani

Mountain landscapes, living traditions and community-led experiences.

Chimanimani

A place, and the people who hold it

Chimanimani sits along Zimbabwe's eastern border, a landscape of granite peaks, mist forest and river valleys. Chikukwa Village, held in its folds, is known for permaculture work that rebuilt soil and forest, and for keeping mbira, dance and story in daily use rather than on display. Every Gatsheni journey here is led by the people who live it.

Chikukwa is a Ndau community whose knowledge of farming, medicine and music has been carried between generations without interruption. Visitors are hosted, not entertained.
