Chikukwa sits in the folds of the Chimanimani mountains, a community known for holding onto its knowledge while the world changed around it. Mbira here is not nostalgia — it is how memory is carried between generations. When elders tell stories at the end of the day, they are handing something over. This experience exists so that exchange can happen honestly, and so the people at the centre of it are paid for their time and their knowledge.
Mbira and story are how the Ndau carry memory between generations.
